He worked vigorously every single day and every single night but still could not manage to escape the feeling of worthlessness, pain and malnourishment. When able, he would sneak in small nibblets of stale bread and drink the dirty water that was scarcely provided to the prisoners at the camp. Like others surrounding him, scared and confused he reluctantly followed the humiliating orders given by the SS guards directing the camp. Those who chose their dignity over obedience were taken away and never seen or heard from again. If only he could escape, if only he could return to the life he once lived before he was abducted.
